Koloa Jodo Newsletter_December 2015

Dear Members and Friends of Koloa Jodo Mission,

First of all, let me express my warmest Aloha and Mahalo to all of you for your kind support to our Koloa Jodo Mission.

I’m writing this letter because I'd like you to know the following (7) matters/events before New Year;

1. New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve Service will be held at Koloa Jodo Mission on Thursday, December 31st, 2015.   Again, this year, the service starts at 5:30 p.m.  There will be no midnight service here...but in case you miss the evening service at Koloa, you can come to the service at Kapaa Jodo Mission which will start at 11:30 p.m.   After the service here, we have refreshments of Sushi and Soba noodles!   RSVP will be appreciated.

2. New Year's Service

New Year Service will be held here at Koloa Jodo Mission on Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 from 10:30 a.m.   There will be no service here on New Year's Day...but you may come to Kapaa Jodo Mission for the New Year's Day Service on January 1st from 10:30 a.m.

My New Year resolution shall be "No Sushi making on Sundays."   As I reflected this year, I made Sushi at least 30 times on Sundays and  11 times on Saturdays.  That's enough for a priest.....Instead of spending time for Sushi, I will spend time for preparation for better sermon.

But  I wonder which is better for you....."Very good Sermon with no refreshment"  or "Not so good Sermon plus good Sushi!"

3.  New Year's Party

Koloa Jodo Mission cordially invites you to our New Year's Party to be held at our Social Hall on Saturday, February 13, 2016.  All members, friends, supporters, and helpers of Koloa Jodo Mission are invited.  New Friends and Members WELCOME!  Please RSVP by January 30th.

4. 2016 Bon Dance

I thank you very much for all of your support to our 2015 O-Bon Festival.   2016 Koloa Jodo Mission Bon Dance will be held on Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30, 2016.   Please mark these dates on your calendar.

5. Calligraphy / Japanese Language Class

Starting from Sunday, January 10, I will have a Japanese language & Calligraphy class for beginners here at Koloa Jodo Mission.  Yayoi Ishikawa will be an instructor.   Students including myself will spend meditative time for writing characters.  Also we will learn Hiragana, Katakana, and some basic Kanji.   For application or more information, please contact me via Email...kosenishikawa@hotmail.com

6. 2016 Schedule

Please check our 2016 schedule and plan to come here for the various services.

Please remember...you are also invited to the Sunday Service at Kapaa Jodo Mission, too, when Koloa Jodo has no service.

7. Happy New Year!

Last but this is the most important part of this letter.  Let me pray for your good health.  And I wish you and your family to have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Again, thank you so much for your kindness.

Gassho,

Kosen Ishikawa, Koloa Jodo Mission
